This policy explains what personal data TapSounds collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. We've written it to be readable, not to bury important things in legal language.

Who we are

TapSounds is an audio discovery platform where users can upload, discover, and share sound clips. When this policy refers to "TapSounds", "we", "us", or "our", it means the TapSounds platform and the team operating it.

What data we collect and why

Account information. When you register, we collect your email address, username, and display name. Your email is used for account verification, password resets, and important service notifications — it is never shown publicly on the platform.

Profile data. If you choose to add a bio, profile picture, or other optional profile details, we store those too. All of this is voluntary and can be edited or removed from your account settings at any time.

Content you upload. When you upload a sound, we store the audio file, the title, description, tags, and category you provide. We also store the timestamp and the account it was uploaded from. Uploading a sound is a public action — the file and its metadata are visible to anyone on the platform.

Usage data. We log interactions on the platform — which sounds you play, how many times, which boards you create and save sounds to, and searches you run. This data helps us power trending feeds, improve recommendations, and understand how the platform is used.

Technical data. Our servers log standard request metadata: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring URL, and timestamps. This is used for security monitoring, abuse detection, and performance analysis.

Cookies and local storage. We use cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences (language, theme, volume). We also use minimal analytics. See our Cookie Policy for the full list of what we set and why.

How we use your data

We do not sell your personal data to anyone. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in to them.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of third-party services to operate the platform — cloud infrastructure, email delivery, and analytics. These providers act as data processors on our behalf under strict data processing agreements. They do not have permission to use your data for their own purposes.

We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or valid legal process, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of users or the integrity of the platform.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information (email, display name, profile) is removed from our systems within 30 days. Uploaded sounds are removed at the same time unless they have been flagged for an unresolved legal dispute.

Anonymised usage and analytics data — where your identity has been stripped out — may be retained longer for statistical purposes.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccuracies, request deletion, restrict or object to certain processing, or receive a copy of your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, visit the contact page and select "Privacy request" as the topic. We will respond within 30 days. In most cases, straightforward requests — like deleting your account or correcting your display name — can be done directly from your account settings without needing to contact us.

Children

TapSounds is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from users under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify registered users by email before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this page always reflects when it was last updated. Continued use of the platform after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
