Terms of Service

Last updated: June 1, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your use of TapSounds. By accessing or using the platform, you agree to be bound by them. If you don't agree, please do not use TapSounds.

Who can use TapSounds

Anyone can browse and listen to sounds on TapSounds without an account. To upload sounds, create boards, or interact with the community, you need to register.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) must be at least 16, or have verifiable parental or guardian consent. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If we discover an account belongs to a user under the applicable minimum age, we will close it.

Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password. Any activity that happens under your account is your responsibility, whether or not you authorised it. If you suspect your account has been compromised, change your password immediately and contact us.

You may only hold one account. Creating additional accounts to evade a suspension or ban is a violation of these terms and will result in all associated accounts being closed.

Uploading sounds — what you're agreeing to

This is the most important section if you upload content. When you upload a sound to TapSounds, you are making the following representations to us and to the community:

  • You are the original creator of the sound, or you have obtained explicit written permission from the copyright holder to upload it and share it on this platform
  • The sound does not infringe any copyright, trademark, neighbouring right, or other intellectual property right belonging to a third party
  • The sound does not contain content that is defamatory, threatening, harassing, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit involving minors, or otherwise illegal under applicable law
  • The sound does not include personal information about another person without their consent
  • You are not impersonating any person, brand, or organisation
  • If the sound includes the voice or likeness of a real person, you have the right to use and distribute that recording in this manner

The "it's just a meme" defence does not apply here. Short clips, samples, and remixes of copyrighted recordings are still covered by copyright law in most jurisdictions. If you're not sure whether you have the right to upload something, don't upload it.

Violating these rules — even once — may result in the content being removed and your account being suspended. Repeated violations result in a permanent ban. In serious cases involving deliberate infringement or illegal content, we may also report the matter to relevant authorities.

The licence you give us

By uploading a sound, you grant TapSounds a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute the sound on the platform. This licence exists only for the purpose of operating the platform. You retain full ownership of your content.

This licence ends when you delete the sound from your account. Deletion removes the file from the platform and from our systems within a reasonable time. Note that if a sound has been embedded externally or saved to another user's board, those references will stop working after deletion — we do not control third-party caches.

Content we can remove

We reserve the right to remove any content from the platform at any time, with or without notice, for any reason — including but not limited to receiving a valid copyright complaint, a court order, a moderation decision, or a determination that the content poses legal risk to the platform or harm to the community. We do not guarantee permanent hosting for any content.

Reporting sounds

Every sound page has a Report button. Use it if you believe a sound violates copyright, breaks these terms, or is otherwise harmful. For formal copyright takedown requests with legal effect, see the DMCA page. Reports are reviewed by our team — we do not remove content based on reports alone without review, but we do act quickly on clear violations.

Sound boards

Sound boards you create are public and indexed by search engines by default. You can switch a board to private at any time in your settings, which removes it from public feeds and search — though it remains accessible to anyone who already has the direct link until you delete it entirely.

Do not create boards that are designed to harass specific individuals, aggregate infringing content, or circumvent moderation.

Prohibited uses

In addition to the upload rules above, the following are prohibited on TapSounds:

  • Automated scraping, crawling, or bulk downloading of content without prior written permission
  • Using the platform to distribute spam, phishing links, or malware
  • Attempting to access accounts, systems, or data that don't belong to you
  • Manipulating play counts, trending rankings, or other platform metrics artificially
  • Uploading sounds that are designed to harm the listening experience of other users (e.g. excessively loud, distorted, or looped to inflate play counts)

Termination

We can suspend or permanently terminate your account for violations of these terms, with or without prior notice depending on the severity. If you believe a suspension was applied in error, contact us with your username and a description of the situation. We review appeals.

Disclaimer of warranties

TapSounds is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, about the platform's reliability, availability, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose. User-uploaded content is not vetted by us and we make no representations about its accuracy, legality, or appropriateness.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, TapSounds and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the platform, or from any content uploaded by other users.

Governing law

These terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of TapSounds will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the territory where TapSounds operates.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
